Our Materials

We prioritize working with natural materials and source our leathers only from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries in Italy. That’s because natural materials are more durable, easy to repair when you’ve given them a little too much love, and ensure the least amount of environmental harm.

Nappa

Often used for luxury shoes and handbags, nappa is a smooth, full-grain leather known for its soft feel and refined look.

Calf Leather

A fine grain leather, prized for its softness and exceptional durability. We often use it as a lining for its glove-like feel against the skin.

Tumbled Leather

Full-grain leather softened through a tumbling process, resulting in a soft, textured finish and a broken-in feel from day one.

Embossed & Printed Leather

Tuscany’s renowned tanneries have perfected techniques to make croc-embossed and python- and leopard-printed leathers look like the real thing.

Nubuck

A top-grain leather that's been lightly buffed to create a velvety, matte surface.

Suede

A soft, velvety leather made from the underside of the hide. Its fine nap gives it a luxurious texture and rich color.

Leather Working Group

The Leather Working Group (LWG) is a nonprofit dedicated to more sustainable leather production. M.Gemi sources all leathers from LWG-certified tanneries.

Naplak

A high-shine patent leather with a slightly crinkled surface. It’s also more supple than traditional patent.

Patent

Leather finished with a high-gloss coating for a sleek, mirror-like shine.

Shearling

Soft lamb or sheepskin with the wool still attached. Shearling is naturally insulating, breathable, and cozy against the skin.

EVA

Short for Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate, EVA is a lightweight, shock-absorbing foam used in soles for cushion and durability.

XL ExtralightⓇ

XL ExtralightⓇ  is an Italian company that has developed a proprietary sole material three times lighter than traditional EVA. Designed to make you feel good in more ways than one, every step of the production process is designed to reduce waste and environmental harm.

Natural Rubber

Harvested from rubber trees, rubber is a naturally flexible, durable sole material used for  cushioning and slip-resistance.
