It starts with hand cutting leather in the beautiful lines to form the shoe's curvature. Then, it's hand sewn with only a single seam at the back, giving a completely uninterrupted view—a specialized feature that only the most versed artisans can execute (and is often overlooked). Thick, smooth leather is used for the sole and lining, and the finishing touch comes in with the lissa (welt), which is hand painted with a tiny paintbrush.
Only a few factories still practice the traditional technique of crafting pumps, and it was our mission to find the best. We discovered it in the Campania region of Italy—a family-owned factory that has perfected the art of hand making pumps over four generations of shoemaking. Here, all our pumps are handcrafted, piece by piece.
When the pattern is simple,
it has to be perfect.
he delicate swoop of the top line, the feminine curve of the arch, the gently tapered heel—a pump's streamlined silhouette puts every little detail on display. So anything less than perfect
is not an option. Challenge accepted.
The pump is innately glamorous and sexy, making it an obvious choice for dress up, but we prefer to pair it with more unexpected extras. We love a high-heeled neutral with workout-inspired pieces, a slick mid-heel to glam up boyfriend denim and button-ups, and a bright point toe for polish on casual Ts and ripped skinnies.
