The Art Of
A how-to guide from
an M.Gemi stylist.
Bloggers make it look so easy, but an eye-catching laydown isn't as simple as tossing together an outfit and snapping a pic. We wanted to take our Instagram shots to the next level, so we asked our stylist, Lindsay, to share some of her pro-tips:
Think in color stories when styling. “Laydowns should pop, but not be messy, so pick a color scheme,” says Lindsay. “I love black and white with a hit of color. I like to combine patterns and texture together for added interest—like geometric printed shorts with a pleated top—and then cap it off with another interesting element like a glossy patent pump. The more visual texture, the better.”
P.S. Did you know there are day and night laydowns for every single M.Gemi shoe? Check them out to see Lindsay's work in action, and share your own favorite laydowns on social with #lovemgemi and tag us @mgemi.
The best laydowns are ones that people can picture themselves wearing. To do this, Lindsay says she always gives pieces movement, “Create an hourglass shape by tucking pieces in at the waistline. With jeans, hide the inside seam and put some air inside for shape. Give a skirt some oomph by creating ripples so it catches the light.”
To make an attention-grabbing laydown, it has to be original. “I like to pair our shoes in a non-traditional way so people can see how to incorporate them into their existing wardrobe, and also show different ways to style them,” says Lindsay. “Take sandals—they're obvious with denim, but I like pairing them with swingy skirts and a crisp button-up to show that they can be dressed up, too.”
